Addendum to "P.C. Compatibility List"
Recently, Novell distributed a list indicating PC's that had been
tested with NetWare as file servers and workstations. Since that
time an important discovery concerning use of the Proteon boards has
been made.
The compatiblily list shows that the Hewlett Packard Vectra,
which runs at 8MHz, was sucessfully tested as a workstation running
on a Proteon system. A Proteon P1300 Revision C board was used in
the test with the Vectra. We can not explain why the P1300 Rev C
board worked in the Vectra, since the board has difficulty running at
8MHz. Since that time we have found that under some conditions
select P1300 Rev C boards will run at 8MHz. However these tests
have been brief.
Proteon is now shipping a new board, the P1300/V, that has
been designed for use in 8MHz machines. It has been tested in a few
select 8MHz machines with success.
Since the Vectra runs at 8MHz, cards at rev A or above may
not consistantly work correctly at 8MHz. The Hewlett Packard
Vectra was NOT retested with the P1300/V board by Novell.
The P1300/V the board must be used whenever an 8MHz machine
will be used with NetWare to insure correct network operation.
We recommend that Proteon P1300/V cards be used whenever an
8MHz machine will be used. Please make a note of this
recommendation.
